18th Infantry Division, 3rd Army of the West

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

This morning Rick contacted me. He is eager to produce those Russian Flags for me. So in a few weeks I will get the Flags in the same Style as my Saxons are.

Cheers,
Günter

The Flag Dude Rick O'Brien posted the ordered Flags this morning so I look forward to receive them within the next week.
The order contains not only the Flags of the 18th Division but those of the 19th Division as well. The First Regiment of Russians is expected to be finished until mid of June as Phil told me and the complete Division may be finished until end of 2015 or even earlier.

Just have to order the Converged Grenadiers from Steve.

Cheers,

Günter

Aha! Giving me a 'sporting chance' of finishing my 7th Division before yours are done, then? Bravo!

Very smart.

I'll ask these to save me making a mistake with my own project, so please shoot me down if I'm wrong.

Shouldn't the elite company drummer have a red plume?

Shouldn't half the elite company be sharpshooters, ie with different coloured pompous?

Hi Stephen,

Yes, half of the Elite Company should have different pompons...yellow if I recall correctly...
But for the Drummer....if I take Bryce's pictures as a reference he didn't give his Drummers red plumes. Another picture from a website shows the Grenadier Drummer also to have a black Plume.
The red plume was worn in the pre-1811 uniform

Have to talk with my painter...

Thanks,

Günter

I picked up the red plume from a link Bryce kindly sent my way. I'm away from home until Friday, but will see what I can dig out over the weekend :D

Dear Friends,

With changes applied Phil sent me the following pictures of the First Russian Infantry Regiment Tambov. Flags will be fixed by me as they arrive in Austria.

This link came from Bryce and, although showing a guards drummer, seemingly applied to those in line regiments as well:
http://русские-витязи.рф/Uniform15

This site also mentions the drummers having red plumes (however, it does use the old pompom colours):

Ok Stephen,
I give in!
As I am a believer that local resources are more true than foreign "storytellers" I will ask Phil to add red Plumes to the Kiwers of the Drummers.

Your happy now?

Cheers,
Günter

I'm happy with whatever you decide, Günter :D

As so often with these things, the information is either incomplete or contradictory. Still, 1812 is awash with sources in comparison to my normal field of research!
