That black and yellow colour scheme for the gun carriage looks impressive, doesn't it?

Excellent painting and basing.

With the second picture in particular, I can really imagine smoke and fire belching from the barrel...

Any idea when that colour scheme was first adopted?

As I cant get a hold on a certain book about the History of the Saxon Artillery I can say only that it seems to have started with August the Strong around 1700. It MAY be that it was invented before that time in the TYW but I have no proof for that.

Thanks. I was looking at late 1680s/early 1690s. Anything you can dig up would be appreciated, but I think I might just assume it was a long-standing thing and go with the "bumble bee" look anyway, as I like it so much.

I found a note in a new book named "Das Kursächsische Heer im Dreissigjährigen Krieg" (The Electorate Saxon Army in the Thirty Years War) that it was tried to get the Artillery uniform even before 1638 but as most larger cities provided their own cannons it was difficult to achieve and only those guns provided by foundries in Dresden and Leipzig got the intended Black and Yellow design.
Hope that helps.
