Infantry Melees

Post by General Overkirk » Fri Jul 11, 2008 7:56 pm

In the Melee section with Infantry, it says infantry do not automatically rout if caught in flank, does this mean they do fight.
Am not clear on the aspect of flank and rear charges in these rules.
How many of the defending unit would fight, would they count as disordered in the first round? Or would it be basically a free hack by the attackers?. There is no deduction for defenders being attacked in the flank or rear in the Melee chart.

My friends and I are having our first battle this coming weekend, so possibly a few more questions may be asked. :? We are refighting the scenario of the larger action in the back of the rules.

Best wishes,
Richard. :)

sorry I mıssed your deadlıne rıchard but I am on holıday out of the country.
A flank charge can only turn to face ıf the attackers are more than half of theır move dıstance away before the charge starts. Then the defenders could fıght back wıth one stand. Otherwıse they do not fıght back ın the fırst round.. whıch may break them

Hello,
We had a go at the rules last weekend, and we found them to be playable and quick, albeit with a few questions and probs with the rules.
1. Do you do morale as and when it happens and do the results of it?
2. We found that a cavalry regt, was inside a built up area, moving through it, and we found that an Infantry battalion defending the area could have been attacked without ANY chance of defending itself. The battalion itself was facing the wrong way as the cavalry entered the area, surely the Infantry could be expected to fire and then attack the cavalry and melee with them to drive them out!
3. If cavalry charges an opponent, who themselves are doing a "move order" in a totally different direction, how would that work out in movements?
4. Does interpenetration mean no moving through any units at all, even artillery, except if it's in retreat or rout?

Sorry for all the questions, but we do like the rules and want to make sure we have it all ok.
Best wishes Richard

1. Do you do morale as and when it happens and do the results of it?
NO. MORALE HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE TURN AND IS DONE FROM THE RIGHT TO THE LEFT OF EACH ARMY. THE ONLY MORALE TESTS ACTUALLY DONE AND ACTED UPON IMMEDIATELY ARE THE CHARGE AND CHARGE REACTION TESTS
CAVALRY COULD ONLY MOVE THROUGH A BUILT UP AREA IN COLUMN AND THEREFORE COULD NOT CHARGE. THE INFANTRY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN NO DANGER
3. If cavalry charges an opponent, who themselves are doing a "move order" in a totally different direction, how would that work out in movements?
MOVE ORDER IS AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED BY THE CHARGE DECLARATION. THE CHARGED UNIT HAS TO REACT TO THE IMMEDIATE THREAT -
4. Does interpenetration mean no moving through any units at all, even artillery, except if it's in retreat or rout? YUP
