In BLB1 there is sometimes mention of either soft or hard cover, like in the shooting tables, but it is nowhere exactly mentioned which constitute these. Apart from gabions mentioned as being hard cover.

I assume from any other wargame experience, that troops behind hedges, fences, etc. are in soft cover, or similar as in woods.
And being behind a stone wall, an earthwork or gabions means hard cover.
