Size of cav units?

Post by Gunfreak » Tue Sep 27, 2011 5:53 pm

I don't have the rules, but if I remember correctly they had 9 pr unit?

And 18 for infantry? I'm doing 24 figure infantry and wonderd if I can keep the 9 figure cav, in Napoleonics I always have 12 figure cav units, but they take up alot of room so if I could down that to 9, I can have mabye 2-3 more cav units.

Gunfreak,

you're missing the biggest gallery on the site

http://www.leagueofaugsburg.com/gallery/gallery-39.html

There are lots of units here for you to see. Cavalry are in squadrons of 6 with regiments in multiples of 6. 6,12,18,24

Ah, so to get about right size, you need the real number of troopers, find out how many squadrons ca. that is. and then you know thw size of the unit?

Any info on WSS sqaudron sizes?

Yes, but I didn't have an OOB that should squadrons only actualy troopers, so I would have needed to know size of squadron to know how many quadrons 314 troopers were or 450 troopers, ofcourse if you have a OOB that actualy gives squdrons the math becomes much simpler.

Thanks for the help so far. Looks like most cav units will be some 12-18 figures strong.

How are cav deployed in BLB?

In napoleonics rules, you have line and column of squadrons. but I think I remember that WSS cav deployed much deeper, so would 2 squadrons be the standard width of a cav regiments with other squadrons following behind?

How are cav deployed in BLB?
You can deploy as a single sqdn or up to 4 sqdns in a regiment. You can attack as a single sqdn or as an 'all or nothing' charge. Most horse are normally deployed on the wings. How you deploy your troops is up to you, your objectives and the enemies deployment.

Greetings

I think (book not to hand) that the figure scale is roughly 1:35. On this basis the 6 figure 'squadron' could be considered roughly a double real life squadron (I think this is explicit in the text).

Due to a previous basing scale, I base my cav 4 figure squadrons...still works, just a lil bookeeping to track for a 6 figure squadron.

Well I'm using 24 figure infantry units, so I need 12 cav figures for every 48 infantry I got?

a lot depends on what figure scale you're using, and table size but as a general rule of thumb one cavalry unit of two squadrons or more to two infantry battalions is fairly balanced.in the games we have played it has allowed the game to be finished within 3 hours .The game's stand based so actual amount of figures on a base does'nt matter I have two or threes on cavalry and four to sixes on infantry depending on the manufacturer.
