15mm GNW project?

Post by Gunfreak » Wed Oct 26, 2011 8:00 pm

So in one of my resent blog post, I complained that I'm aperantly no longer a a 15mm gamer, I started out on 15mm, but looking at my blogpost I got almost twice as many posts in 28mm as in 15mm.

So I want to do a 15mm project. Jus something I can do, as I'm allready doing a BLB in 28mm, I thought a GNW project would be fun.

And much cheaper then 28mm.

Also since the units are so small 18 figures, I can have LOTS of units.

A 18 figure unit would only take up oh 7.5cm frontage.

Would let me fight quite big parts of any GNW battle.

I like the 15mm Dixon range, they're very nice.

I would second the choice of the Dixon Marlborough's wars range lovely figures & the starter armies make a good base to build on. I am going to be using it for my large engagements forces for the Nine Years war, but with 25mm sized bases and double the troops on them as I am an old big battalions man.

I wouldn't say so, the Bluemoon figures are very nice but I'd still go for Dixon.

Depends what you mean by old school to be honest, so you may see them as such, but I find they are a nice range of well sculpted & appropriately detailed 15mm figures with enough width of range to used exclusively if you want to.

They are also inexpensive, with choice of mounts for the horse, and unlike the Blue moon ones which I like by the way, not nearer 18mm so they will have a greater variety of other ranges that they will mix with.

Dixons are excellent figures, however they are a limited range and only mix in well with Essex. Check out Eureka, they started doing a range in 18mm, bluemoon are quite nice much bigger than Dixons but weirdly enough the cavalry match ?? Forget roundway, you'll spend half your life cleaning them up and they arn't detailed well, check out Blackhat, and you could always use some French SYW figures as Swedes, Friecorps arn't bad.

Choose carefully many 15mm ranges do not match

Also with Roundway as they are only avalible direct form Navwar who only deals with orders by letter cheques and orders phoned in on Saturday & doesn't take credit cards or Paypal or supply the trade any longer they can be an effort to get hold of at all.

That said the ones I have seen where good figures and would not have needed unacceptable amounts of preparation. however those where in Spirit Games and know things had been said to Navwar about quality control issues.

I like the Roundway figures too, I bought their WSS engineers/workmen and Pontooners (is that a word??, probably not!!), mainly to use for French in the FIW, the hats are a little small but they're damn nice figures.
