1690-91 Irish Lists

Has anyone had a go at producing a general James II Irish Army list or lists along the lines of those in the BLB rulebook for France or Grand Alliance?

As yet I'm not looking to directly recreate The Boyne or Aughrim so I'm after a slightly more "generic" list.

I'm still fairly new to the period and still feeling my way via various accounts of the conflict.

Thanks,

Toby

Not what you wanted but here is a link to King James Army in Ireland, still a good look through. It is a thick book, I have it in hardback at home as well.

Barry is currently writing two books on the Irish campaign and I'm sure there will be lists in there.

This might help...

The series is based on building armies for both sides. My armies ARE based on the main elements engaged at the Boyne, but I always go about building generic forces by choosing part of a historical conflict. Once I have my core armies, I can expand them in any way I choose.

Thanks Clarence, that's actually what I've largely been using!
I was thinking more specifically of things such as troop grades, numbers per regiment and brigade, which units to make more "militia-y" and so on.

Cheers,

Toby

Ah. I usually vary troop qualities to match the specific battle or balance my scenario. There are many instances in history where 'Harrison's Regiment' preformed like heroes in one battle and fought like little girls in the next. In the Ireland campaign, we often are unsure as to even which regiments were present as many contemporary accounts simply mention Lord SO-in-So traveled to Wheresit with five battalions of foot and two regiments of dragoons!

Anyway, as Dave mentioned, the Ireland books will have as much detail as possible. Again, my advice is to pick a battle or a portion of one and model your initial forces on that!

What is the format? A part one and two of scenarios or are they a rules book and scenario book?

cheers

Edward

They are both scenario books, but are also going to have plenty of information regarding orbats, uniforms & special scenario specific rules.

It was originally intended to fit into 1 book, but Barry has found so much information he has had to split into 2.

The 1st book will be getting all of its wonderful pictures taken at the end of the month & then it's ready to go.

I'm sure Barry will give us a more accurate time scale, but I would think late summer for release at worst.

Just back from the Kingdom of Saudia and picked up this thread so here is an update:

Volume 1 is at the design house right now. I reckon it could run to 200 pages as the text was about 40k words. Volume 2 I will start shortly. Another book which is based on army/regimental lists is finished but in the queue... so,

I have been making good use of my time
