After all of the French Rhetoric, I feel duty bound to let all readers of this site know how things actually were..............from the Prussian perspective!

My 'Kinder' did amazingly well...........enough to say we deffinately had a 'morale victory' even if the actual battle was was not quite the result we wished for!

We were outnumbered and 'out qualitied' in nearly ALL areas. However we put up a sterling performance with, at one point a 'single' isolated Landwehr battalion holding off (and destroying) elements from a French Cavalry Brigade and a French Infantry Brigade, for a number of game turns!!!

Very lucky for the French that we did not have more of these battalions available as The Frenchies would have had their 'Pantalooned backsides' kicked all the way back to The Seine.................!!

Dave is right.. I am the UAE for 11 days so away from 'equipment' David took loads of nice pics, they are on his blog and I am sure he could probably upload some in the forum here too if we're nice to him..

to continue the story...

Blucher is as always, somewhat partizan in his rose tinted view of Die Kinder..

they were initially outnumbered but in numerical terms the balance shifted somewhat on day 2 with 21+ Prussian battalions facing around 17 French (albeit the Guard did constitute 10 of those).
The Prusskies did fight well and the incident Ade Blucher Howe alludes to caused that unswerving Knight Errant of R2E(Le Toggy) to cry

"That's totally unrealistic!... these rules are ****!" ok the last bit is an exaggeration but he was perplexed when the volley saw off his dragoons

The initial French attack had mixed success Gengoult's brigade and the cavalry cleared the Prussian right flank (after the heroics of the Wunderkind) lleaving the flank of Gilly hanging in the breeze. Herbst and his Berg regiment secured the left flank and the Middle Guard made heavy weather of breaking in but succeeded in doing so just as the rains came down.
The price from a French perspective was a divsion of cavalry and about a Brigade of infantry...

more on the game of two halves in the next and final instalment..

I recoognized every one of those incidents Jim.. right across the 3 table iterations of the west table and some of the action on the east.
Saw Bill's glory moment taking Gemioncourt and your feat of reaching the cross at QB!

Well actually the Brits fought gallantly to the last German

With the exception of 9 British cavalry regiments and 1 battalion of Guards I can't remember ANY other British units apart from 2 x RHA batteries being in action. on either table.

The Household Brigade did very well then galloped off into the sunset chasing wagons near Paris somewhere. The light cavalry gallanty impaled themselves on the bayonets of French squares. So, actually I am being a little unfair there.. the cavalry took the brunt of it. Infantry on infantry fghting was quite limited on the west table. There were LOTS of cavalry actions though

Say it as it was!!!

If that's another dig at me supposedly being biased then you are barking up the wrong tree. Anybody that knows me would probably accuse me of being anti-french which is why my Napoleonic armies have been Prussians, British and now Russians. The only two French battalions I have were bought painted only because they were so amazingly cheap and they appeared on the other table.

When it comes to WW2 wargaming I have a 1940 French force, Brits and early Germans which are mostly armed with panzer II's.

As to your previous email complaining about lack of Brits I suggest you read some books on the start of the campaign and you'll see that most of the early fighting was done by the Dutch-Belgians, Nassauers and Prussians.
