As a warm up to the big weekender in October we have decided to run a 1 day game on Saturday August 21 2010 at the Lundin Links Hotel.

It will be a BORODINO SCENARIO .. probably the battle for the Schevardino Redoubt on Sept 5th or the battle for the Fleches on the 7th.

As usual, the troops will be provided by us. If there is interest let us know and we'll confirm. The day's gaming will cost £20.

This will not be a mega game but it will be BIG!

I'd love to be counted in for this one too. Never played a scenario involving Russians (after all these years too, most odd).

Guys, we have a choice about this game...

If there is enough support we can make it a normal weekender game and book the hotel for the Sat and Sunday, 21/22 August, usual price! Arlynne is confirming this with me today.
OR
We make it a one day game on Sat, 21st and anyone who is travelling can get a room at the discounted room price for the Friday night. If we go for this, I can get the hotel to do us a nice lunch on the Sat.

Can you guys let me know what you would prefer?

It's a good site but the map seems to show the villages being much larger than anyone elses maps plus the others usually show the village of Shevridino as being behind and to the right of the redoubt. There was also another Russian Jaeger regiment (2 battalions) from a different division that was sent to support Neverosky's troops. His division had also lost all their guns at Krasnoi so I don't know if he had been resupplied with new batteries along with the 3,000 reinforecements he recieved or if these were also from different divisions.

Cheers

Here's another site that's worth looking at.

If you have the patience.. watch all of the video clip links. They are in Russian but you can pick the story up pretty easily if you tune into the commander names, and watch the maps. The 3d diorama shows the Shevardino redoubt with its flat edge towards the French (it is Pentagonal).
There is also a video of a female reporter inside the redoubt.. very useful. There seems to be a Borodino panorama in the style of the Waterloo one...

great stuff

For those who are interested in some pictures out of the Borodino Panorama it was painted by the german born, russian painter Franz Roubaud in the early 20th century.
Here are 4:

Hi Dave

I will be coming up on Friday anyway and stopping Saturday night as well so 2 days gaming would be ideal for me.

Ringing Arlynne tomorrow to book room.

So looking forward to another great weekend see you in August.

Guys,

if we get enough interest it could be a 2 day'er.

The central theme of the game is the attack of Compans 5th Infantry Division on the Shevardino area. Interestingly, a Division in the Grande Armee is nearly the size of a Corps in the 100 Days!
Each of Compans 4 regiments has 5 battalions apiece!

The defenders include the 27th Russian Infantry Division, Jaegers, part of a Grenadier division and cavalry.
We MAY include some of Poniatowski's Poles, French heavy cavalry and some surprises. There WILL be cossacks and of course plenty of Russian artillery.
Players who may wish to express a preference for sides please do so!
