Jim, General Buggeration will be there having recovered from his wounds suffered whilst capturing Paris but someone else will be using him as I will be helping Barry keeping you lot under control.

Instructions for "Special Events"

1. Write them up on foolscap paper.
2. Roll the paper up very tightly.
3. Apply a little Vaseline to one end so it won't hurt when...
4. ...

Well I am going to leave all the special events to Dave but there certainly are a few surprises in store in this game and I don't mean MAD MAD MONKS..

Just finished the orbats, units labels etc and the line up is very impressive.

The sides are picked, briefings set, objectives identified it just remains to get the whole thing set up and rolling. Looks like we have the largest number of players yet with 18 of us on Saturday.. you will hear those cannons roar for miles around!

Gentlefolk,

A big thanks to Barry and Dave for a sterling weekend. I met a lot of old friends and made some new.

I also set some kind of record: five battalions - four feet - twenty hours.

Our two latest members of the Légion d'honneur:

Callum

Dave

Dave: for taking a battery in a frontal assault without his hat on.

Callum: for acting as bait to the Russian Priests - you didn't see the script on his T-shirt that I had to crop out of the photo. He nearly had the award withdrawn when he dropped it on the floor and broke it but, praise the Lord for superglue.

Oxford English Dictionary Definition:

Callumny: noun: when your battery of Imperial Guard 12pdrs is taken in the rear and wiped out to a man by a squadron of Prussian Cavalry classed as recruits and commanded by a lad who isn't old enough to shave.

Jim

PS: Just finished painting my two sets (got another one yesterday) of Manoeuvre Point Markers for no other reason than that I'm probably certifiable.

Well, where do you start?
One word sums up this weekender for me:

INTENSE

We had 14 players on Day 1 and 12 on Day 2. We had action from T1 and we played 0800 to 1330 of 7th September 1812.

The French burned 44 battalions ( 24,000 infantry) and 14 cavalry regiments (7,000), deploying the equivalent of 130 guns to storm through a Russian defence that was as watertight as a w-e-t suit.

The Russians reached new heights of stoicism with regiments being cut down to the last man in the Fleches and on the open field rather than surrender.

We saw 2 redoubts change hands 5 (yes that's right) times another 4 times and another twice. The Raevski was stormed by 1130 after being pounded into a pile of earth by 30 minutes bombardment from 100 12pdrs!
By 1330 the Russians were charging it with Dragoons and had managed to get in to contest it.
We used an 'anti christ' mortar to bombard a holy icon from a range of 1 km and watched the General of the Tzar's Cuirassier Division and a Royal Prince charge to their deaths on the bayonets of the 'Terrible' 57th' whose 2nd battlaion fought to the last man routing the Lifeguard and Empress Cuirassiers.

We had hidden trenches, wolf pits, Priests and Sinners and all the details will appear soon in pctures and words.

For an immediate look go here:

http://saxondog.blogspot.com/

where you won't find any information about how General of Cuirassiers Imrie started the genocide of the Romanov's 105 years early

Great weekend and I think we all need a lie down now.

Some other blogs from the guys will show more detail and hopefully they will post links here

More soon..
Thanks to Dave O'B and DI as always!

Intense...Ok Barry, let me recount the event…
The Russian left was falling apart Gerry, Dave and myself were a little more than resigned to the fact we were going to be flanked, we retreated around the holy icon and started to pray! Then like a miracle, or at least a lucky special event, the Cuirassier division arrived (in the time old 7th Cavalry fashion). By this time the French had formed square on the hills to the left. We formed up and I was given command of the Guard Cuirassier. With the other Russian Cuirassier regiments heading straight down the centre and making it’s was for the fletches that were now in French control. I decided to nip down to the toilet. On my return I was informed... my Guard Cuirassiers were being ordered to charge uphill into a French, veteran and elite unit formed in square, on a hill with formed support from it’s own brigade all around it. I immediately demanded a letter to be sent to the Tsar, stating I was obeying my command under duress! What the hell I thought it was the last turn and I thought the Guard might just swing it with the wait of numbers. As soon as I launched into the charge a quote from Winston Churchill was in my mind…“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” What a sight it was watching the beautifully painted guard Cuirassiers riding uphill in to a French square. I attached the Divisional and Brigade commanders at the front. The first round of combat went well, I thought I may just pull this one off…next round I managed to get my two commanders killed and watched the wonderful guard being decimated.
Looking around I noticed the other 15 gamers had now gathered around for my humiliation! I was so engrossed in the game, I didn’t manage to get a picture of this event. With cries of…wait till I post this on my Blog coming from at least three of the other gamers, I decided it was only a game and another quote from Churchill sprung to mind…
“Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.”

It was a great weekend game and I can’t wait until the next one!

Such eloquence, humility, perseverance and obedience deserves recognition 8)
No wonder the Russians won the war of 1812!

I saw the same spirit in all of your commanders yesterday as you respnded to General Bagration's dictats, perhaps All NOT with such good grace

I DO have the photographic evidence somewhere.. to follow..

I was sure it was going to be

YOUR GREATEST WARGAMING VICTORY...... EVER
