Bonjour !

A friend and I have discovered RtE a few month ago and we are very pleased with the « spirit and approach you (Mr HILTON) gave to these rules.

So thanks for this !

Please help us to clarify a situation that happened yesterday.

During a game, a unit of specialist light troops ( infanterie légère ) were almost fully deployed in tirailleurs : 6 pairs + 3 combat groups in the rear. This unit entered a dense wood. My question is : does the formed combat group left behind make the movement of tirailleurs slower in the woods ? We can assume that since the groups are more dense they cannot move as fast as tirailleurs, like if we have 2 movement capacities within one unit…

And please let me add something, just a little reflexion about command radius. We have the feeling it is short . Deploying a 4 brigade batalion in line means that one or two unit, depending on their size , is/are out of command. Manoeuvring becomes difficult. Or we missed something

Bonjour Laurent and welcome to the Board!

You have interpreted correctly on the movement of the Tirailleurs. You could potentially have two speeds of movement in the same unit which would of course limit the extent of the movement of the dispersed troops.

As for command radius yes I agree this may seem a little short but it is designed to force players to keep their brigades together and not to extend them too much into for example.. one long thin line.
The maintenance of some kind of reserve even within a brigade means that unless the units are particularly large or numerous or both that a brigade should be controllable by its brigadier.

Glad you like the rules and that we have some players in France... without your army, there would be no Napoleonic period so Merci!!!!!!

There are RtE players in France, sure !
I have to admit we are not very numerous. This is probably due to the great number of new Napo rules published since roughly 2 years and to the fact that there is a kind of napo rule syndrom that could be : one club, one rule …An ego affair probably.
However, my feeling is that RtE is the good one. After reading it and when playing , you can feel the spirit of napo wars. Other rules are more classic, mathematic and lack of « panache ».
You did a nice approach , fair and impartial.

I am pleased to see that you are on « the prowl » and ready to answer questions on the forum be sure i will post new topics soon.
