Dave O'Brien and I played the GNW options today. The Swedes are tough Mothers!
Swedish Army:
4 Guard Battalions
4 Elite Battalions
7 squadrons all Elite
Commander; Karl XII (Skilful)
Russo-Danish Army
4 Raw Battalions (Russian)
3 Drilled battalions (Danish)
1 Elite Battalion(Danish)
4 Field guns (Russian) Drilled
3 squadrons of Cuirassiers (Danish) Drilled
3 squadrons of Horse(Danish) Drilled
2 squadrons of Dragoons (Russian) Drilled
7 squadrons pf Dragoons (Russian) Raw
Commander : Tzar Peter (Competent)
Swedes outnumbered 2:1 in Horse, no artillery but Foot extremely strong.
The game was very hard fought but resulted in a convincing Swedish victory with 5 battalions fully operational but the Horse largely spent.
The Russians were all but gone and a rear guard of 2 Danish battalions was making a last stand.
King Karl was mortally wounded leading a cahrge of the Lifeguards and his replacement General Lewenhaupt was also killed in action leading the same battalion!
Swedish morale kept them afloat and advancing. The forward momentum ade them very difficult to stop.
We ran across a few 'gems' in terms of mechanism clarification but if anyone wants the closest BLB thing to an uber army.. the Blue Machine is the one!
