WSS British Dragoon Headgear

Post by Bernhard » Tue Feb 11, 2014 1:55 pm

OK, this is probably a childishly easy question for this group. Front Rank produces WSS British Dragoons with two types of headgear, the tricorne and some kind of a fur hat. Was the fur hat worn by specific regiments, elite companies or at a specific time period? I can not find any references. I was only aware of the tricorne for British Dragoons. Does anyone have any information?

As far as I know, at least some dragoon regiments had a grenadier company on horseback, eg what later became 4th Dragoons. They may have worn the fur hats, the rest were in tricorns.

However, you are on safer ground with the four troops of Horse Grenadiers that formed part of the Horse Guards, I believe they were all in fur hats :)
