DERBY 2012 - 1690 The alternative history

Post by barr7430 » Sun Aug 26, 2012 8:58 pm

For all of the players coming to Derby in October here is the first installment of the alternative history from 1689 and moving up to the time of our scenario:

11 May
Admiral Herbert is defeated by Admiral Chateaurenault at Bantry Bay. Five English men o’war are sunk and the English fleet restricts it operations to the eastern Channel until October 1689. The French Fleet has uncontested control of shipping lanes to and from Ireland for the remainder of the year.

4 August
The city of Derry finally surrenders to General Hamilton. General Kirke’s forces having been unable to break the boom across Lough Foyle withdraw to their fortified camp on Inch Island 10 miles west. The garrison of Derry is accorded full military honours and allowed to march from the city to Inch.

25 August
Following the Grand Alliance victory at Walcourt on August 25th 1689, the French Army falls back to the French border and takes up a defensive position for the winter.

28 August
After his defeat at Killiecrankie on 27th July General Mackay withdraws towards Edinburgh and is beaten once again at Dalkeith on August 28th. His force recrosses into England at Coldstream on September 6th.

More installments soon. From this jigsaw picture you may be able to build your own conclusions about how the scene will be set at Derby!
