Thanks Shaun and really glad you enjoyed it! I felt the games worked very well with plenty of action for everyone over both days.

I am pleased you mentioned the 'Otis' affair.

We have had
Watergate
Plebgate

and now... as you have so aptly pointed out..
Liftgate!

Thanks for looking after Adrian during his traumatic encounter with technology, now you know what the rest of us have to do to keep him from harming himself and other people's property.

He is able to work a TV remote so I am informed but lift buttons.... now that is a challenge

Yet another excellent weekend!

Our thanks to the organisers (The Usual Suspects!), Andy and Shaun for the quiz and the good natured competitors...

We had the regular sequence of dying generals and exploding cannon, but I think we achieved a first in getting a Swedish unit to rout! ( :D )

Spoke with Gerry today.. he is still shell shocked at the death of St Ruhe! Especially since the Jacobites were definitely winning comfortably at that point...

Hi Guys,

Wanted to say thanks to all for the good natured gaming, banter, and laughs provided by so many people. Was good to see so many friendly faces again.

As Barry said, still shell shocked from Saturday. Looking forward to the next exciting episode.

Cheers

Gerry

P.s......have been busily looking for venues that are all on one level......specifically for Ade!!!!!!:-)

Hi Shaun,

Sorry for the late reply. Just arrived in Magdeburg and can now enter our forum as it was not allowed on the Ferry because it was termed as "gaming"

I enjoyed the weekend very much. The Terrain was as always beautifull! Also the banter about the "winninninniest" Situation and someone's abilty to "lift" our spirits :D . Even the quiz as my knowledge of english warfare was almost zero.

The travel through the Channel was rough and the result was that I had to do the driving through Holland and Germany with headaches.

Looking forward to our next meeting in 2015.

Cheers,
Günter

Hola Companeros!
I had a great time at the weekend. Great company, great food, great wargaming & the "Lift me up before you go go!" Saturday night cabaret performance by Ade brought the house down!

Like Gerry,I can't figure out how we played so well tactically, winning across the board, & lost the Battle of Aughrim in "BarryTime". History did repeat itself.

I played against Killer-Colin in the Aughrim game & along side him in the Saxon game. He was unfailingly courteous & fair in the games. I learnt a lot from his style. I'm more like Gerry, 'red mist' descends in "BarryTime".

However, on quieter reflection(steam is no longer coming out of my ears over the Swedish game Sunday rules)"BarryTime" events/interventions do actually challenge you to deal with unexpected events/surprises,which was all part of the warfare in that period. So, Viva "BarryTime"! Haha.

Wargame highlights? Battle of Aughrim,Clare's Dragoons withstanding a Cavalry charge, routing them & capturing Ginkel's standard. Lowlights? Suffering the ignominy of one of my Swedish regiments routing!(Gerry's face was a picture!)

I had great fun with all the banter. It was really good to see people dish it out & be able to take it.

Fantastic organisation by the team/umpires; Barry/Ade/Toggy.

Enjoyed the company of everyone.

Hasta La Victoria Siempre!

Paul

Just like to concur with everybody's comments, great weekend, games, terrain & company, first class. Could have done with more sleep on Saturday night but, Ho Hum, can't have everything.
Unfortunately 'Barry Time' never occurred on Sunday (must be a Saturday thing) and so the Williamite master plan (wait for the act of God) never came to fruition and they lost.
I've had a word with Danny Boyle and he seemed quite keen to do a sequel to 'The Descent', working title - 'The Ascent - Ade's day out', just need to get the script right (any ideas Toggy ?) and start casting, now who should play Ade ?
Really looking forward to Waterloo next year, should be spectacular :D

Just like to say a big thankyou to all the guys who took part this weekend, I think it was 1 of the best yet.
As an umpire the most enjoyable thing was the spirit the games were played in, competetive but with the emphasis on fun.

Both tables looked great, hopefully Barry will post a few in the coming days to show them off to anyone who was not fortunate to be there.

The "crack" was of the highest order, I think we certainly outdid the professional comedian of Friday night.

Adrian has officially been elevated to the "Highest Order of Lift Attendants",
recognised by the lift industry & soon to be presented with an Otis.
A rising star is born.

Hope to see you all at Waterloo in 2015, if you're struggling to get to Dumfries Adrian says he'll give anyone a lift :D :D :D :D :D

Here are some impressions of the two battles fought on that weekend.
One was the Battle of Aughrim and the other the Battle of Fraustadt/GNW.
