Strange description of swedish firing pattern

Post by Gunfreak » Sun Jul 09, 2017 10:19 am

Reading a norwegian book about Norway in the great northern war.

He gives a short description of the swedish army.
In his description of swedish tactics. He gives a description of a firing pattern I haven't seen before.

Infantry advanced to 30-50 meters from the enemy. Before the first rank fired their volley. Than they advanced a few meters more befoe the 2nd rank fired. They than advanced again before the 3rd rank fired. They then advanced into mele.

I haven't seen any other source describe swedish tactics like that.

It's either: stop two front rank kneel, two back ranks fire. Advance then at close to point blank range before the first two ranks fire. Before mele.

Or: simple single close range volley.
