Another intresting none English book

This one is older than the Danish one and Norwegian one I've recently read.

From 2008, it's about Fraustadt.

I've come to the start of the battle proper, but there has already been plenty of interesting factoids.

One that is very cool is that for this battle the Swedish deployed 6 ranks, not 4 and that instead of keeping the pikes in the center they were placed all along the line of the battalion, between the 2nd and 3rd rank of musketeers.

Yes, this Battle brought changes in deployments on both sides.
The Saxon Infantry, by Schulenburg's inventions, stood now in 6 ranks instead of the previous 8/9 ranks. While the mounted Troops had order to use their swords in the attack instead of the pistol.

No wonder, that all those inventions brought some chaos.

Slutsåld means sold out.

The book is worth it just for the great Map showing the positions of every single battalion and squadron on both sides.

More interesting tidbits.
The Närke-Värmland Regiment(1200 men) and about 800 cavalry singlehandedly had to tackle 6900 russians) as the Närke-Värmland attacked and started to chase of some of the russians they still hasn't removed the
Cheval de frises and so the swedish cavalry rode up to them and fired their pistols into the russians.

And while we're on the subject of Cheval de frise those used by the Saxons and particularly the russians where more the simple wood constructions. But with metal and even hooks.

Well, publishing mogul.. hmmm. I think we'd need to enlist the services of some of our Scandinavian friends.

I would think such a book as this (quite specialist) would be more likely to sell in English than Swedish anyway!
