Looking for help with colours.

Post by big-gazza » Sun Jul 06, 2008 4:56 pm

Hi,
I'm painting up some 40mm Perry naps figures just now and I need some help.

As part of the group I have to do a British Light Infantry bugler.

Image

Now the problem is with the jacket colour which from the above picture doesn't look to be the standard red coat that the rest of the light infantry were in.

The picture looks to be somewhere between yellow and bown.

Any help with what colour it should be would be great.

thanks

Gary,

British musicians wore 'reverse colours'. The infantry wore red coats with different colour collar and cuffs. The Musicians wore coats of the 'cuff colour' with collar and cuffs of red. This guy looks to be in 'buff' I think his is from the 52nd (Oxfordshire Light Infantry) who had buff facings

Hi,
thanks Barry. I think its the 43rd I'm doing so the facing should be green so the jacket will be green.

Pics to follow.

Noooooo!!!!!

The 43rd had white facings, so white coat faced red. Unfortunately, this means you'll have to do some fancy black lining (or similar) on the coat lace to make it stand out.

Also, the "reversed colours" thing didn't apply to regiments with dark blue facings - essentially Foot Guards and "Royal" corps - who wore red coats with lace of the Royal Livery, either white or yellow with blue fleur-de-lis (similar to modern-day Foot Guards drummers).

The facings for the 87th were green but they were Line infantry not a Light Infantry unit.

However, they would have had a stove pipe shako in the Peneinsular. Not sure, but presumedly the light company would have had buglers with a horn badge on the shako.

The 85th Bucks Volunteers were a light infantry unit with yellow facings. Laterly amalgamated with the 52nd Oxfordshire light infantry.

87th definitely green (and a sound bunch of Irish lads to boot, so very few morale problems as long as you keep the black stuff coming.....).

The 51st and 68th both had deep green facings, and also became light infantry regiments - not sure exactly when for each though.

Hi,
thanks for the help. I'm fairly new the Naps side of things and I don;t know the history to that level of detail.

The figures are a commision and the customer supplied the figures and desired regiment so my hands are - on it.

Should be finished soon.
