1806 Saxon Hussar question

Post by 18th Century Guy » Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:41 am

Did the Saxon hussars carry any type of squadron pennant? I know they wouldn't have a standard or flag but did each squadron have some type of rally or recognition flag/fannion/pennant? I'm getting ready to start painting up this unit and I'd like to have something for each squardon if it existed. Thanks.

Greg,

It may sound strange but the Saxon Hussars didnt carry any kind of fanion or pennant. Neither Hottenroth in his book about the Saxon Flags nor other sources state the existence of a colour for the Saxon Hussars. It seems that was neither planed nor wanted to give them, in their role on the battlefield, a fieldsign which could be lost.

I am sorry if I could not be of greater help.
Best Wishes,
Günter
