Any views as to which dragon figs from front rank to use to represent this unit.

Cheers

Ideally, you would be using a Dragoon figure with the helmet in an oilskin, since Waterloo was damp, muddy, utterly miserable piece of ground that would make a right royal mess of your horsehair plume and get you bawled out (and docked for damages) by your commanders.

Since Front Rank Doesn't make that figure (though they do bearskins in oilskins), the most accurate uniforms are their Dragoon / Dragoon Guards Post 1812 - In Helmet.
With Gen'l Custer Down in Mexico: Yes, one of the goals is to see how many times one can get him killed.

You could do some light conversion - remove the plume & cover the helmet with a skim of green stuff or similar sculpting putty to obscure the details of the helmet a bit. Paint this the same sort of dark greyish brown you would a British Shako in a cover & you are done.

The Liquid green stuff Games Workshop sells to fix its finecast ranges would be easier if you can stand the price as you could just paint it on with a nylon brush.
