I am currently working on the Ireland supplement for BLB. Recently Dave, Bob, Gerry and I re- fought the battle of Aughrim over 20 hours and three sessions. The game was an outstanding wargaming experience and well worthy of a revisit. I have serialised the whole process in a marathon 14 parts for the Blog but have been thinking of a multi player re-fight to feature as one of the centrepiece items in the book.
Sitting here in Dubai watching the sun go down has clearly warped my brain because I have as yet to mention this folly to the LoA team who may think I an mental but here it is....
Sometime before September 2014 I want to re-fight Aughrim again with 5-6 players per side. The game will hopefully be on custom terrain built by Adrian's Wall's. All of the models on the table without exception will be Warfare Miniatures. All the regiments on the table will be the correct units for the orders of battle of both armies without exception. The game will not be the normal LoA weekender in the respect that we'll not run it as a commercial venture. It will definitely be a full two day event with set up on a Friday evening. I think we'd ask the players to cover only the cost of their subsistence and the room hire - set up, nothing more.
The venue is likely to be one of three places:
Larkhall or Dumfries in Scotland or Derby in England. We'd need the commitment of players to be there for the two days which will inevitably mean an overnight. My job would be to photograph and umpire.
If you are interested in this idea please let me know and I'll get organizing. I am sure at the end of it, Adrian will want to sell off the terrain and we'll probably sell off some of the units we use in the battle.
