The LoGW is a purely leisure based little group which has been running for three or four years now. There has always been a wee bit of a 'waitlist' to join as the games are always 100% subscribed by the original founders. We never mind when people want to come and have a wee look now and again but the chances of getting a game in the short term are pretty thin.

Occassionally I have run larger games of the same sort for other clubs or helped them organise their own. Who knows??? maybe I'll get another one organised sometime in the near future.

IU think some of the answers to your questions appeared in other threads but let me see what I can do here to clarify:

Availability: Within the next few weeks. I know you probably feel you've been hearing this for a long time but the reasons are rather prosaic:
1. I travel all over the place hence many delays in terms of communication and continuity.
2. The last few steps included: Formatting advertisements for some of the traders specialising in the period. We now have some very handsome inner cover Ads completed.
3. Clarence was finishing a couple of illustrations
4. I need to drop in the 'final' photo which is being taken tomorrow.

Printing will follow on quite a tight turnaround after that.

PRICE: To be fixed shortly but I think £13-£14 is a realistic price bracket

PAYPAL: Yes! The launch of the new site should have this capability. New site launch very soon. All done already.. just waiting for the moment!

SHIPPING: Cannot tell you until I get the weight of the rules. I will make the shipping cost clear on the site.

I understand that you don't need a PayPal account to use PayPal (by using a credit card over the facility). Is this correct?

Golly, I've been using PayPal for many years . . . so I'm not sure . . . but I THINK that you are correct. Go to their website to be sure:

I do know that in all the years I've used it, I've never had any problems with it. It certainly makes online purchases easy . . . of course that isn't ALWAYS a "good thing" . . . *grin*.

Thank you for the link to the main home page and the gallery.
For some reason when I joined the forum it took me straight to the threads forum rooms.Nice gallery and my favourite has to be the pic of the Royal Fuziliers which are nicely painted and love the flag standards for the regiment.
I've found some flag designs on the Warflag website, but can you help any further with the regiments of Marlborough.
Next is military music? Apart from regimental drummers when did the fife come into service and did they serve during the Marlburian period.Did the Scottish regiments have the bagpipes as in the Napoleonic period or were they banned?
If I wanted to listen to some military music of the period do you know of any websites?
Finally how do I download any pic's of my own in the Gallery or forum.

Flags.. I cannot recommend Mark Allen's series in Wargames Illustrated highly enough. You really must invest in Duncan's CDs.. well worth the cash. The Articles cover Louis XIV 1680-1714, The British Army 1680-1714, The Dutch the Jacobite Irish & Wild Geese plus all French 'Etranger' or foreign regiments.

Fifers... well fifers have been around since I think late medieval times, certainly during the TYW. I think the 'origin' of Protestant Orange Flute Bands are in the fifers of the period under question so pretty safe to assume fifers are IN!
Bagpipers I would doubt. Scottish regiments of the time were recruited MAINLY from the protestant Lowlands with one or two exceptions. There were no highland regiments in flanders (one perhaps from Argyll for a brief period). So I'd say pipes are pretty much OUT!

Music.. couldn't say sorry but I once I did have a tape of Louis XIV military music!! can't remember where I got it but there were certainly lots of LOUD DRUMS in it Posting in the gallery is not possible Ray but posting pics in the forum is.. I don't know howe to do it but several other users do..... GGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRYYYYYYY!!!!!

Just the other night I was listening to a baroque music program on the CBC digitial TV music channel and they had a peice of music called 'Marche de la mousquetaires'. I believe the title of the CD used was 'Music of Versailles'.

Thank you both for your input and answering my questions.I managed to get my hand's on the CD's of back issue's of WI number's 40 to 125, but the info was mainly on the Grand Alliance and Army of Louis XIV.
Did I miss Duncan's surname and where I could find his CD's?
The British Army CD sounds interesting.
The Fife and Bagpipes answer was helpful and the Drums would have to be LOUD to be heard over the sound of battle.

The 28mm figures are Front Rank and are painted as the Dutch Foot Guards although I think the facings should be red rather than orange?
These were on sale on e-bay at the weekend and I only just lost out to another bidder with second's to go.Final price was £95.17p + £5.00 p&p.

On the subject of bagpipes, John Tincey notes a painting of Dumbarton's regiment in Tangiers, circa 1683, which features bagpipers wearing the normal regimental uniform of red faced white.  The reference is found on page 41 of the Osprey publication, "The British Army 1660-1704" in explanation of the book's illustration E3.  He also states that, as an English regiment, Dumbarton's was forbidden to have pipers on its strength so I presume that Dumbarton would have maintained any regimental pipers in from his own pocket.  I don't know how accurate this information is as I have only seen the reference in the Osprey book but I thought that I'd air it for what its worth.Rgds,Bob Miller

Although it is probably the case that men from all over the country recruited into each regiment there has always been a localisation in the British forces with men from a particular geography joining the local regiment. Dumbarton(town) and Dunbarton(shire) are on the north bank of the Clyde west of Glasgow. It is techically the beginning of the western highlands(just south of Loch Lomond) but would ordinarily be thought of here as the Lowlands. The Earl may well have had pipers but the people of this area would not have had any particular affinity with the wild highlanders of the north west.
It is also worthwhile remembering that Dumbarton's(1st of Foot), oldest line regiment on the British Army establishment, can trace its origins back to the 1630's as Hepburn's Regiment who were mercenaries during the TYW period. There may well have been a tradition of recruitment from across Scotland and hence ..pipers.

During our period many of the 'famous' regiments had origins in quite distinctive parts of the country...

Earl of Leven's (later the KOSB)... from the Lothian area around Edinburgh
Cameronians (our local regiment)... from the west and central area... many Covenanting families

Interestingly Sir Hugh Mackay, General of the Scots Dutch Brigade, commander at Killiecrankie and who was killed in Flanders came from Scourie I think which is in Sutherland. He truly was a 'highlander' in the geographic sense. Maybe his regiment was recruited from his own lands. I have never looked into that before..
