Spanish infantry

Post by clapezza2 » Tue Jul 08, 2008 10:20 am

Does anybody know if Spanish infantry had cross bandoleers (cartridge box and sword)or waist belt (sword and bayonet) with a bandoleer on the left shoulder (cartridge box) in the last 20 years of XVII century?

Many thanks, Claudio.

You might find what you are looking for at

Or you can send him an email. He seems to know a lot about the Spanish army in the 16th and 17th C.

Not sure about the last 20 years.
"From Pike to Shot" Charles Grant "The Spanish Army of Phillip V" James Hinds and "Lace Wars" Funcken all have the infantry with belly box and waistbelt from early 1700s.
Fawn/Lt Brown in colour and Grenadiers had broad belted bag over right shoulder to carry grenades.
Hinds quotes 1717 as the date for shoulder ammo box so I think it is safe to assume that the 1680-1700 period also had belly box.
