Matchlocks & flintlocks

Post by Chad » Fri Mar 25, 2011 12:49 pm

Planning to start wargaming the 1690s using the new Pendraken 10mm, but do not know enough about the transition from matchlock to flintlock to know whether or not to buy both or just flintlock figures.

Help from those more knowledgable than myself would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can depend on the army you are building. Early on it was mainly matchlock with better troops having flintlocks. As the period progressed matchlocks dwindled. Some were slower to make the switch ie. French, Jacobite, English and some faster Danes and Dutch etc. You cant go wrong having a mix in your units. Depending on the rules you use the differences would be covered.

Joe

Thanks for that.

As for rules I am patiently waiting for BLB2.

Are here any must have books for this period?

Somethings with OOBs and colour uniform guides would be good 8)
