Copplestone Glory of the Sun range taken over by North Star

Post by Arthur » Tue Nov 01, 2011 7:27 pm

I was browsing the Copplestone website today and I noticed that the Glory of the Sun range has been sold to North Star. Which is probably a good thing as Mark C. had more or less dropped it at mid-course, either because he had lost interest (as he sometimes does) or because the figures weren't selling well enough to justify adding to the range (dunno about that though, as they seem very popular among C17th enthusiasts).

Nick Eyre seems intent on completing the gaps in the range. The North Star blurb states that the first 26 packs were sculpted by Mark Copplestone, which implies that someone else will carry on with the putty pushing. Below is a pic of the officer from the new non-Mark C. cavalry command set and it looks good enough to fit with the rest of the Copplestone sculpts :

The range is no longer known as the 'Glory of Sun' and is now marketed as North Star's 1672. The good news is that the prices have dropped by 10 to 30 per cent, depending on which packs you're buying. The command figs are noticeably cheaper now.

This is a very good news; this range is wonderful, the figures are solid and full of personality but Mark Copplestone appears to have forgotten them. With North Star we have an opportunity to complete our collections (mine is about the Spanish Army clashs in North Africa...).

You're welcome, good Sire

Nick Eyre confirmed on the LAF forum that Steve Saleh is taking over from Mark C. to finish the range, which is excellent news. Steve is not only an excellent sculptor, he can also match Mr Copplestone's style quite convincingly.

Arthur:

Yes, I saw this news noted elsewhere too, thanks for opening the discussion here.

Does anyone know of any comparison images of these with our Warfare Miniatures?

My interest really centers "around" 1685, give or take a decade or so...

Cheers,

Michael

Nick and I have been discussing some synergies between the newly acquired range and WARFARE. The historical time line contiuum is close and as the WARFARE range will most definitely expand there is a possibility for some not often seen coordination between two companies who can compliment each other without competing with each other. Nick already stocks WARFARE for the Trade as well as BLB/R2E. It is in both of our interests to look on this piece of synchronicity with a positive outlook for both.
