New Ebor Miniatures battalion

Post by Eugenio von Savoy » Sun Jan 01, 2012 6:05 pm

Hi all
Happy New Year.
Later than promised here are photos of my initial stab at the new Ebor range. The right hand base of two figures is awaiting a casualty to fill the gap.
I hope this encourages Nick on to complete the cavalry and the GNW troops I have been badgering him about!
The unit is the Savoy Regiment Monferrato. I have not got around to making the cloth flags yet so the ones shown are the paper prototypes and therefore the finials have not beeb added to the models yet.
The Bavarian church is stratchbuilt by Nick 'The Mole' from within our group.
Hope you like them. I shall attempt to complete unit #2 asap; after the WW1 British cavalry, the 3 Carlist battalions and the remaining Huns for my Late Roman army - Arghhh!

Rather nice really should have a go at some myself but I am trying to get the lead & plastic pile under control as it grew a bit over the holiday for some strange reason.

Thanks for the images, I have two battalions of Ebor Dutch that I haven't gotten to...yet. Your images make me :D when I anticipate working on them.

One thing, I hadn't noticed before, is that a particularly "Dutch carry" with the left hand actually gripping the musket? Anyone here know?

Nice looking regiment.

How do these figures compare in size to other popular lines. Are they on the big size like Front Rank, comparable to Copplestones/North Star, or smaller like Warfare and Dixon?

cheers

My previous post was a bit vague. I know that the "at the slope" holding the musket by the stock at the neck is commonly shown on both figures and prints.

The nearly vertical musket but not held in the "crook" of the arm is rather different? Just curious if that was peculiar to certain nations' drill?

Hi all
Many thanks for the positive feedback.
I have shunted around the 'painting table order of sequence' and brought the next Ebor unit closer to the action end of the conveyor belt. Hres hoping....

How do these figures compare in size to other popular lines. Are they on the big size like Front Rank, comparable to Copplestones/North Star, or smaller like Warfare and Dixon?

The figures are actually closer to the size of Warfare, Dixon and the older Foundry ranges with average figure height being same or 1mm ish taller. The key fact is that they are of the slimmer build so that are easily able to fit in with a mix of those ranges and whole units of them are not so far different from the other manufacturers to look odd. Attempt to mix them or deploy whole units with the 'lumber' range and they will appear as under nourished elves lacking the ubiquous bazooka. No surprise there then!
I am actually extremely pleased that both Ebor and Warfare have attached themselves at this side of the divide. Nick did (I think) show some comparisons on his site blog last Autumn (Fall) but I'm having difficulty finding the photos again. It could have alternatively been on TMP - not able to accurately recall.

Thanks Tim

I have ordered my firat two packs from Warfare before Christmas - Grenadiers and Stationary Command. I plan to do a detached grenadier stand.

Not sure what though, perhaps Jacobite grenadiers from the regiments that defended Oldbridge or Ramsays's grenadiers (1st and 2nd Bn 1st Foot Guards, 1st Bn Coldstream Guards, 1st Bn Scots Guards and a battalion of Dutch Blue Guards) that stormed Namur in 1695.

I may have to try a few packs of Ebors.

Lovely figures and far more attractive than FR. But it would be nice if there were some head variations to the line infantry figs.

The unit looks really good Tim I must admit I am quite taken with the army of Savoy/piedmont myself with the varition of uniforms and its German and Swiss Regiments. In answer to yours and other peoples justified comments about the lack of head variants Paul will be sculpting two marching figures without heads to go with a head sprue which can also be used with the other figures, also two more officer figures to go along with the French,British,Austrian and Prussian foot.

Good fortune and happy gaming Nick

@Eugenio von Savoy
The unit is the Savoy Regiment Monferrato
Very nice - but, which year ?

It should be during the later stages of the War of the Spanish Succession because of the fur caps of the Grenadiers (and the tricornes, of course).

During the Nine Years War the Grenadiers would wear cloth stocking caps in red or the cuff colour.
