Which LoA army?

Post by sdennan » Mon Aug 06, 2012 10:34 am

Hi All

My project for the next year is to build a 28mm League of Augsburg period army. I am a little unsure what to get. I try to be an aggressive close to combat type player. So, any suggestions of an army that would fit my style?

For the really aggressive player GNW Swedes are probably best, their army being usually outnumbered and requiring aggressive "fall on!" tactics to survive, and they have the doctrine to carry it out.
Strictly in the pre-1697 period the French are probably more aggressive than the allies, especially the cavalry, but they probably don't outdo the allies by a huge margin in aggression.

Irish Jacobite cavalry had a significant reputation for aggression. I am building them myself!

You can play nearly every army aggressive ...... or defensive

take the army you like best:
style, uniforms/colours, prominent commanders, a certain campaign etc. pp.

flick through the books and the Internet, read about their battles and generals, and then make your choice

that's the way I fell in love with the Savoyan army of Vittorio Amadeo II
