Looks like this a reprint of Childs book, quite a coincidence as Barry & myself were looking at Charles Grant's copy at the LOGW weekend.

If this is a reprint of Childs' book on the British army during the NYW, judging from the title, it will be the one on the operations in the Low Countries. This book is a must have!

Also recommended are Childs' books on the British Army of William III (difficult to find), and on the Williamite War in Ireland (easy to find).

Could you say more about this book ?
Is it "a must" for all those interested in this period ?

hello Maciek,

A pretty good review is found here: http://internationalhistory.wordpress.c ... countries/

Whether the book is a 'must' have depends of course on ones particular interests and points of focus. For the military historian, the book will give ample insight in the conduct of warfare as executed by the 'British' army on the continent. Also, how the 'British' contribution to the continent grew between 1689 and 1697 will become clear. The book is not narrow-minded, in a sense that is does not mention events taking place outside the Low Countries theater. In an appendix, an overview of main characters is given adding much to value of the book.

Thus, for anyone with a serious interest in the 'British' army, and how it operated in a major war on the continent (for the first time since many many years), this book is almost obliged to have. (Actually, it is the only recent publication on the subject.)

For those looking for detailed orders of battles, minute to minute descriptions of battles, and uniforms, this book will be of much less interest.

cheers,
Wienand

I borrowed this book a few times from the RMC Library in Kingston. Gives a good description of how warfare was conducted in Flanders during the Nine Years War.

One of the few books that has narratives of the big four for the Confederate Army: Walcourt, Steenkerque, Neerwinden and Namur.
