Colour of gun carriages for Savoy and Spain?

Post by Ronan the Librarian » Thu Oct 30, 2014 10:41 pm

Anyone know what colour the gun carriages (and possibly limbers, caissons and other vehicles) of the Piedmont-Savoy and Imperial Spanish armies were in the 1680-1700 period? I have my suspicions, but would like to hear from the experts - especially those with language skills who've read non-English works.

Red was very common at the time (France, Bavarian, Hannover among others), but light blue was the official colour of Savoy (eg officers' sashes), so my suspicion is that it's one or other of those.

Ditto for the Spanish, who certainly had light/horizon blue in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, but also used red in the early/mid-18th Century.

Many thanks in advance for any replies.
Ssshhhhh!!!!!
