Hello

Does anyone know any info on the flags under Charles II reign?

Would they be the same as James II regimental flags but with JR replaced with CR? Only flag I can find is the Coldstream Guards which is blue with usual st George in the middle.

Thanks

I would have thought they'd possibly look like the older ECW flags. Their is an old pic of what became Kirke's regt, its green with the flag of St George in the canton, can't remember where I saw it though???

i was thinking the same wasn't sure if it would be the old regime is over so new flags would be issued by the newly recalled king.

Thinking about it you could probably get away with most of the Warfare flag range, maybe best to stick to the plainer St George's cross flags or the even plainer one colour flag, rather than the ones with cyphers and coats of arms.

Ok after a lot of searching I've found that the the 1st foot guards under Charles II had

Crimson colonel flag
A usual cross of st George and majors a pile wavy
Cpts had cross of st George with Royal emblems I think that means
A rose, port culis etc etc maybe like on Charles I foot guards but not a red field just the national flag of England within the centre of the cross the Royal emblems..... I think

2nd guards had blue colonel and then blue with a cross of st George

James II changed the flags to cross of st George's with
Cpts having his Royal cypher

1st cpt crown and JR
2nd cpt 2 x crowns and JRs etc etc

The site is britishempire.co.uk it has a few flags and history of British regiments from 1660 to present day
