I know you have tons to do but maybe in simple form, on-line,
I'm increasingly eager to see the Thirty Years War amendments for 1645 Rules. The assault group look to be doing a comprehensive western European range to go along with their eastern Turks etc.

Another option would be to use a service like www.lulu.com. This is a print on demand service so would reduce your outlay.

The purchaser decides whether to buy the PDF version or a printed version.

I think this would be the best option. Dare I say Option 5.

An interesting option . . . or series of options depending upon the number of pages and how many color photos (and I think that Barry and Clarence are planning a lot).

I would want to see one of their books before I chose them to publish . . . but if the quality is good, it provides a wonderful "low risk" option. Also, I wonder what the copyright limits are . . . and how Barry and Clarence might make any money (they've spent a lot of time and resources on this project and deserve to get compensation).

This is an option that they might wish to look into . . . but I think that we don't know enough to assess whether this is a viable choice for them or not.

Still, Pete, this is certainly a possibility for them to consider. Thank you for discovering it.

Clarence and I have tentatively considered this option and have not ruled it out. I have also in the interim has preliminary discussions with a couple of wargames hobby pubishers. This actually would be the second most desirable option after own funded issue. It shares risk and also has distinct distribution advantages.
Meanwhile, the spadework continues.. more photo shooting tomorrow for me and I know Clarence is back on the illos.

I was looking with interest on the Landen ORBAT. I know that this is your favortie battle. There is not much info on the web about this battle. It is almost one of those important battles that time forgot.

I know you are putting the finishing touches on ULB 5 but maybe as an idea how about a chapter on the history of the battle to add to the flavor of ULB5.

There is still time to do it as that section of ULB is as yet unfinished. I now have direct access to Charles Grant to discuss info. Together with the quality data being posted by Mats and others we could do a feature/scenario/orbat section on this particular battle.

I am going to SALUTE and hope to be able to talk with some publishers about ULB there.

How are things going with ULB v5? Can't wait

I know the rules call for 18 man battalions on 3 x stands at 6 apeice. Do you think the rules would work with battalions being 12 men on two stand a peice, with 6 cavalry repersenting two sqns.

My reasoning behind this is more battalions and sqns on the table

ULB V is not stagnating! I am going to SALUTE this coming saturday in London. It is Europe's biggest wargames 'trade show'. As a visitor I am meeting up with a few people who will give me the low down on whether a publishing agreement is viable or not. On the basis of these conversations and some consultation with Clarence we'll decide what to do re: issuing ULB as a commercial enterprise. So, give or take, I think we are still roughly on schedule. Clarence is doing some more illos, I've got a few more shots to do for the main rules section. The other parts are WIP. So, hang in there!

Re: 12 man bns and smaller sqdns - yes, can't see any reason why it would not work. Infantry morale/shooting and fighting will all be fine. Sqdn strength could be reduced and morale modified by using say a D4 for 4 figure sqdns.

Barry, as you know Colin and myself have all our units as 12 figures strong for using Koenig Kreig rules, when we tried your rules we used our units as 3x4 figure stands and we didn't seem to have any probs.

Our sqn's were usually 6 figures strong and I think there were a few that were 8 figures strong. Because both our armies were made up the same we had no problems it might be more awkward if you are both using different systems.
