Continental warfare 1687-1699

Post by jean1951 » Fri Dec 09, 2016 1:36 pm

Hello,
It is about Flanders and BtLB. It is about cavalry in the period. Cavalry were either shot or blade in UK according to the rules. But what ablout the nationalities involved in Flanders. I have Dutch, Spaniards, Lumemburg, German, Bradenburg and English horse. Which were shot which were sword. What about the French what are they. I have started a 10mm armies both sides and miniatures come with a rider with a pistol or sword,

I do not believe change done quickly from one doctrine to the other and the time period suggest that if the owner of the regiment would do what suited his fancy.

In general English, Dutch, and Germans were likely Bullet before 1700 while the French were Blade. There were possibly exceptions in individual units or battles, so you can probably mix the two. The transition of type occurred around 1699 with the majority of powers changing to Blade (and the contrary French appear to have changed to Bullet).

Not sure about the Spanish...
