Danish Regiments : Colours per Battalion

Post by Glorfindel » Sun Jan 29, 2017 11:50 am

I would be grateful if someone could clarify the system of issuing Colours for Danish Regiments in the WSS.

I am about to embark on a project to paint a lot of Danish Battalions in 10mm and would like to get my head round this if possible !

I have looked at all the sources I have (the excellent GNW books by Hoglund and the impressive Uniform guide by Torstein Snorrason) but can't find an answer there.

My expectation is one Livfana per Regiment and one Kompanifana per Company (the clues in the name !) with, perhaps, each Kompanifana being slightly different.

Of course, the Danes have an added complication - many of their Battalions were in Service with the Dutch, English or Austrians and, during that time, it appears that these Battalions were issued with specific Colours.

For any wargaming Battalion, it is only ever going to be a representation (particularly if Colours were issued to each Company) but I would like to understand what I am trying to represent...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you !

Phil
