Palmes brigade at Blenheim?

Post by Gunfreak » Mon Aug 21, 2017 6:52 am

All the OOBs I find online show Palmes having a single squadron of Woods horse in it. While the second squadron is with Woods brigade. Someone on Facebook claims this is wrong.
All my online OOBs might be based on the same faulty source. So is it correct that one squadron of Woods horse was with Palmes?

According to Iain Stanford in his booklet "Marlborough Goes to War" 2nd edition, published by Pike & Shot Society

Wood's Brigade,
Wood's Horse 2 sqns
Lumley'sHorse 3 sqns

Palmes Brigade
Cadogan's Horse 1 sqn
Wyndam's Horse 2 sqns
Schomberg's Horse 2 Sqns

Woods suffered a stomach wound at the Schellenberg hence little or no mention at Blenheim

Palmes led at least 50% of Wood's sqns in at least 2 charges

That's the reference the guy on Facebook used. I think the online OOBs (including the one on Wikipedia) are based on Chandler?

The "Digitales Archiv Marburg" DIGAM gives only 2 Squadrons of Wood in the First Line Left Flank of the OOB

„Macht Euch Euren Dregg alleene“

"Sort your filth out by yourself!" The King of Saxony Friedrich August III., at his abdication 1918, referred to the quarrels in the parliament and the squabbling within the provisional government.

Interesting. I wonder what is the original source for putting half of Woods horse with Palmer.
