‘History of the British Standing Army AD 1660 - 1700’

Post by Captain of Dragoons » Wed Jun 24, 2020 12:09 pm

I found on Google Play Books a great book by Clifford Walton ‘History of the British Standing Army AD 1660 - 1700’. Published in 1884.

It includes the founding of the regiments.
Campaign Histories including: Tangier, Monmouth’s Rebellion, Ireland, Flanders (great narratives on Stienkirke, Neerwinden and Namur).
Also chapters on uniforms, weapons, the running of regiments, etc.

Cheers

Seems to be a good find :-)

I just looked it up in the Internet Archive

It is a nice book which catalogues a tremendous amount of (little) details.

Unfortunately there seems to be only one digitized copy around, which is also used by some profiteers who sell it in paper, which misses pages 156-169 (covering the battle of Aughrim). Guess the person scanner the pages fell asleep or something. In any case, my copy of the digitized version is put to good use.
