Movement Dice

Post by thinredline » Sun Apr 13, 2008 10:35 pm

Gents, those of you involved with "The League of Gentlemen Wargamers" will instantly recognise what I mean when I refer to "Movement Dice"
(Hold, move, fire, Form, Charge etc)

Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier

Thanks Barry,
Had a look at the site, and I now realise what a good idea Peter put into practice with his dice.
Regards,
Bob

Bob, a UK supplier called Em4 can supply the blanks in a range of colours and sizes. I bought 50 blue for my Frenchies and 50 green for my Russians and hand wrote stickers to put on the sides because my printer wouldn't produce anything that legible that small.

Litko could no doubt make them to order. The question is what to put on each side ? The obvious ones are
Move (with a direction arrow)
Fire (my current dice actually have a first fire and a hold fire side)
Charge
Form (which would include limber/unlimber)
Hold (basically do nothing but wait)

I guess you could have one side showing Assault or Melee.

Hi Peter,
Thank you very much for the pointers. :D
I mistook your "professional job" as just that. 8) - and was thought that these were "commercially available"
I shall try and emulate your excellent work
Kind regards,
Bob

I contacted Litko but they do not offer custom dice etching at this time. They recommended this place for truly custom dice.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for contacting Litko, and the pointer to Crystalcaste.
I had a look at eM4 last night, saw the blanks and looked at prices for custom dice. They look affordable especially when you get to 101 plus. I'll see if I can get the info together into their format for them. Your idea on a sixth side for assault/melee - I would probably go for "assault"
Main reason for progressing in this direction was the pure functionality of your dice and the direction I am likely to take in Rulesets. Your dice were to me, more preferable than card markers etc, so much so that I would like to emulate them. 8) 8) I have had laminated card made up and will try this in the interim, but I do not see it as the "FINAL SOLUTION"
Kind regards,
Bob

Bob , the blank dice are reasonably priced but for the custom dice at the quoted cost "per side" it gets a bit expensive for me.

One further thought is to leave one side of the dice blank for those units not under command that turn.

If you do decide to go for a production run let me know and we can maybe combine an order.

Hi Peter,
This is where I put my hands up and get embarrassed
I really should read the "smallprint".
As you correctly point out "per side", makes the final price about 6 times the cost
I was talking to Dave T yesterday, and I think both he and I will end up following in your footsteps. 8)
Imitation of you good ideas, the highest form of flattery
