Dutch cavalry for Glorious Revolution- advice sought

Post by markdo » Fri May 10, 2013 9:23 pm

I need to start William's cavalry off.

From Sapherson and Grant I've worked out the regts, uniforms, no of men and then translated that into BLB terms of how many squadrons/ half squadrons each.

It seems clear that a number of regiments- usually 3-4- need merged together to make squadrons.

I have 2 Qs to my esteemed colleagues out there.
1. Aesthetically, should I aim to put like colour of uniforms together or should I aim for a bit of variety?

2. Also, would I be better keeping the Garde de Corps separate as a troop or squadron- would their morale or training be higher than the other regts?

Many thanks,
Mark

Before painting any Dutch figures I think you should take a look at the new CD on the Dutch Army by Robert Hall et al. The info there is much more up to date than either Sapherson or Grant. I am having to repaint to some extent almost all of my Dutch cavalry and infantry.

Factually perhaps, but we are not talking about actual squadrons more of how to model them under BLB2 & given that squadrons varied quite a bit in size in actuality its not as easy as it might be to convert squadrons on a one for one basis.

A very similar issue came up on the recent Masion du Roi thread.

Thanks for the advice so far. I'm happy with the OB and the number of figures/bases required it's really the uniform colours concerns me and whether there were established brigades I should be adhering to.
Is there somewhere in the UK sells this Robert Hall book so I can avoid paying in dollars?

Ah! Yes!
I can solve my problem by having 2 figures to a troop for smaller rgts.

Thanks all!
