The raising of the Saxon Army 1810-1813

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Dear Friends,

Finaly I got the last of my Line Infantry Brigades ready, the so-called Yellow Brigade consisting of the Regiment Prinz Maximillian and Regiment von Rechten together with the Grenadier Battalion von Spiegel.

This concludes my Saxon Line Infantry which is now at a Figure strength of 720 Figures. Current sculpting process goes for the Light Infantry in 10-15 different poses of whichh all but 2 are ready for moulding.

The next basing work will go for 3 Light Cavalry Regiment including the super large Hussar Regiment.

Thanks for following.
Cheers,
Günter

Dear Friends,

here are some news from the sculpting front:
First of all the Artillery train has been launched and is ready to be ordered. It consists of Horse teams, Drivers, a mounted Officer and a mounted trumpeter. A bunch of those are already with me to go into action with the Caissons and 2 Batteries. Some pictures will follow as soon as the teams are assambled.
On the Light Infantry front it can be said that all miniatures are gone for making the production moulds including the pile of backpacks which Steve sculpted.

Image

There will be also a special type of Chevaux de Frise in the next release as I wanted to have one with Boar Spears instead of wooden stakes. Steve sculpted wooden stakes too as those are useable for his ACW Range.

More info as soon as they arrive.

Cheers,
Günter

Dear Friends,

The last steps have been taken for the production of the Light Infantry.
There will be quite a lot of different types of them. They will be ready for production until the end of the month.
The Gunners for the Horse Artillery are almost ready, just one of the loading crew is currently in the process of sculpting.
After finishing the above we now come to the Heroes of the Saxon Army:

The Garde du Corps, the Leib Kürassier Garde and the Zastrow Kürassiere!

The figure style will be charging. Their mounts will be a bit larger than their counterparts of the Light Cavalry. These 3 Regiments will close the circle of the Saxon Army 1810-1813.
What remains will be Staff Officers, Casualty Figures and some other stuff.

Cheers,
Günter

Thanks Bryce!

Let me put it that way:
The variety of figures is because I intend to do 4 Battalions TWICE!
4 Battalions marching AND 4 Battalions skirmishing.

Günter

Dear Friends,

besides of the almost finished Horse Artillery Crew I have put together my order for the Light Infantry which will run up to 280 Figures :D .
We started to discuss the future Saxon Heavy Cavalry. My support have been loads of pictures and informations which I collected over the last Years.
Some of the ideas for the sculpts are going for doing 4 Figures each for Guarde du Corps and Cuirassiers; galloping horses and full parade dress style as the remaining Army already has  .

More details later as they are coming up.

Cheers,
Günter

Dear Friends,

As the Year 2013 is nearly at its end I like to share the following pictures with you. They show what I have so far done on behalf of the Saxon Army, what units are ready and what units are in different stages of basing. The later part includes 3 Light Cavalry Regiments still not done, 6 Foot Batteries in different stages and the Light Infantry with some tries to base them as skirmishers.

Image

These are 22 Battalions

Image

Image

Image

5 Light Horse Regiments, Hussars in the Center

The unfinished Units mentioned above

Image

As You can see there is still a lot of work ahead of me. If you ask yourself why I show unfinished units the answer is: It is a psychological war against the lazy part of me to push myself to finish those Saxons  :D

With this pictures I wish All of You a Happy New Year!

Best Wishes,

Günter.

Dear Friends,

Some news from the Sculpting side:
The good news are that the Regimental gun, the 4pdr Schnellfeuer-Geschuetz is in its finals as it is the 12pdr gun. They will be very fine detailed models! Going to production mould making this Friday.
Also there are coming two more Foot Artillery men sculpts also to be finished this week.

The Heavy Cavalry has a bit of a delay as the heavy, larger horses are a more complicated than my Sculptor thought. As long as the size of those horses are not ready the Riders cant be sculpted to be in scale to them.
This is also a main problem with most of the Heavy Cavalry on the market out there allready existing. The only company I know off and where my idea for those larger horses is taken from is/was Connisseur!

Neither FR nor the fabled Calpe seems to remember the fact that Cuirassiers were sitting on LARGER horses then those the Light Cavalry had under their Arses! But may be they think only about doing 1813-15 so they are right with those 'second hand' horse breeds!

Thats all for now with all my rumbling :D

Cheers,
Günter
