WIP - Raifs first WSS Figure

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

WIP - Raifs first WSS Figure

Post by raif » Sun Dec 29, 2013 3:27 pm

hi guys,
first of all, i will say hello to all of you. I am new here. I am thinking about to create a troop for the - hopefully - soon published donnybrook-rules. i got a free front rank wss-mini from a friend and tried this for a testfigure.

i tend to start a dutch troop. on the first step of my wip i painted the face of the officer.

as it is my first front rank mini i paint, i have to say, it's really nice sculped. but i am not sure, wheather i will start with front rank, or warefare or ebor. musketeer miniatures i like a lot, but i am not sure if i like the great northern war, because the uniforms in this conflict were more "uniform". not so colorful, like in the wss.

ok. here is the first pic of my wip officer.

more pics of the face you will find on my blog.

i will post the next steps in this thread, if its allowed.

Welcome to the LOA forum, I like your paint work, very nice detail indeed.
Which Dutch regiment is this and how many regiments are you intending to paint.
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your photo's.

Cheers,

Ray.
Hi ray,

That's a good question! I am a real noob in this war. I searched the web but i couldn't find good informations about the dutch regiments. I guess blue coat and red cuffs will be a common color combination. So question to you profis, which regiment could this be? :-)

I will paint for donnybrook, so i hope not to paint whole regiments ;-)

Given its an officer & officers could and did wear quite what they liked it could be any regiment of your choice. Uniform regulations such as they are are for the other ranks.

As to conman Dutch colours I would go for grey of the sort you would associate with the confederacy for the uniform and red is not an unlikely facing - lining colour especially if you want some generic infantry for skirmish gaming. The French used red as a facing colour by default at the time.

I hope that helps and that's a rather splendid paint job too.
