Hi Doug

Yes, your rendition of feuille morte - i.e dead leaf - is as good as any. And though they may seem like a detail at first sight, the red waistcoats really add a welcome dash of colour amidst all that grey.

They are looking great. Question on the artillery, some people paint them as you have with the grey coats and others paint them blue with red cuffs. Which is right for 1704?

WSS French gunners - a.k.a the Régiment Royal de l'Artillerie -wore grey coats lined blue with red waistcoats, breeches and stockings. The blue coat with red facings only replaced that uniform in 1720, five years after Louis XIV's death, and blue remained the colour of French artillery uniforms for the rest of the 18th century.

The only French gunners to wear blue coats before 1720 were the Cannoniers des côtes de l'océan, raised in 1702 in La Rochelle to serve coastal guns. The nature of their duties meant they never left their fortresses and didn't serve with the field armies, until they were absorbed into the artillery corps in 1720.

Nice figures! The flag is good too, it has the right effect and you can identify the unit from looking at it too. Not always possible with some renditions of French flags for units of horse that I've seen.
