Siege of Athlone for May Partizan 2016,

Post by arthur1905 » Mon Feb 08, 2016 4:40 pm

The Derby club is putting on a game of the Siege of Athlone for the May partizan, this will be a 12 by 6ft game, depicting both sides of the town. Hopefully I will be able to limit each town side to one and a half 2ft terrain boards, as I want to try and depict the whole siege. Here are some of the early build photo's, hopefully i will be able to upload the progress on a regular basis,

I forgot to say that the river cloth is from Cigar Box c/o Nick at north star, this is the first cloth I have bought and I am very happy with it as it allows me to solve the issue of having a 3ft wide river.

Really coming on Mark! This will, I am sure look absolutely fantastic when finished. Unfortunately I am again going to miss Partizan through our team being otherwise committed but please take plenty of pictures (and try and make sure Stuart is not in any of them! )

Barry,
Your presents will be missed at Newark, I was really looking forward to your GNW game. I will make sure I get some photos without Mr Parkin in them for you.

Sorry for the delay in updating, i am nearing the completion of the walls for English town, 2 out of the 3 wall sections have the stonework carved, just one to go and sort out the battlements etc,

the town should cover between 3 and 4 square feet, so will have plenty of room for buildings and figures, hope you enjoy

Just a quick update as I have finished the English Town Walls and they need to be packed away before I start on the Irish Town Walls, so a couple of shots with my Jacobite Irish army on parade

Mark,

it is shaping up in a very impressive way. I am certain it will be a star attraction at Partizan!

Well, after a lot of pondering and time wasting I have started on the walls for Irish town, the two main problems I had to deal with were:

1. the town walls on the Irish side never survived as they were made from earth and not stone, with there entire area being know covered by the town.

2. Athlone Castle, after having tried several scale drawings and mock-ups, I have decided to not include this on the board as it did not play a real part in the siege and it was going to dominate the town board and i still want some open space for the armies to maneuver.

here are a couple of work in process pictures, of the town walls, which i have decided to make it part of the board which is 4ft by 2ft
