Didn't learn anything new from that program but hopefully it educated more of the general public? Although it is always a bonus to see the lovely Lucy.

Very interesting episode with quite a significant part looking at the impact of these events in later years. Its always going to be relatively superficial given the short time available but I think she tried to maintain a balanced view.

I always appreciate Lucy's efforts to bring history alive in a way which might appeal to the general public - lots of warmth and humour.

I did notice one little point she made - apparently the term 'dragoon' is named after the 'fire-breathing' / dragon-like musket ??

Hmmm. Not so sure - I thought the jury was still out on that one. Seemed a bit of a throw-away comment. Does she have some special insight here ?

She also kept saying that James was a tyrant which is news to me I would have liked to see more evidence regarding that point.

Only just watched it....

Did James II really not fight and run because of a nose bleed?? Seriously?

Pop history.
The 'general' general public like their history in incy-wincy little doses that are easy to digest between tweets, facebook and reality TV. Anything demanding slightly more concentration is off the menu.

It was a nosebleed... British history changed as a direct result of the King having a panic attack.. believe me, it was on TV so it must be true

Lee, incidentally I was classing you in the category of
Wargaming Nerd... along with the rest of us.....

Have a read at Meriol Trevor's book on the life of James II - The shadow of a Crown. Then you'll get the Jacobite view.. good read but mnay say it is too biased the other way

So it was rubbish the nose bleed? maybe he new the game was up?, the army was ready to rebel? Or he actually thought let's not start another civil war? I can just imagine the officers thinking we're is the king!? Someone saying he's gone running with a nose bleed so don't waist your troops lives on him either way I don't believe that he ran because of a nose bleed maybe the victors propaganda twist made him look week and not very king like

I am sure he did have a nose bleed at some point Lee. I just think that may be a bit of an apocryphal tale for the all the other haemorrhaging going on at the time...

The piece that I thought was interesting was William having to change the dates on his correspondence . And don't mention the word invasion. i dont mind Lucy doing history as she doesn't really seem to have a political agenda.

the BBC history magazine this month (march issue) has an extra magazine about the Stuarts . Quite interesting .
