Piedmont army during League of Augsburg War

Post by chema1986 » Mon Feb 25, 2019 11:58 am

Hi guys,

As many of you already know, Helion is producing some very good books dealing with our period 1660-1700, I have just seen all the plates of this book, and started to read it:

https://www.helion.co.uk/william-iii-s- ... -1697.html

It comes with some of the nicest colour plates I have ever seen (by Bruno Mugnai) for League of Augsburg War, and I really would like to paint some Piedmont troops after this... hahaha. There are plenty of flags too, for regiments that fought along the Spanish Army of Milan and Imperial/German forces at Staffarda, Cuneo or Marsaglia.

Cheers!

An excellent series (& great to see a publisher taking a more in-depth look).

You might also be interested in this site which has a huge amount of additional uniform detail :

Nice website thanks. I used to have the ebook called "Army of the Duchy of Savoy" but I deleted it by mistake. The plates on there mostly line up with the ebook, although the uniforms in the ebook I had were from 1670 onwards and some in your website are earlier. On the ebook, the Saluzzo regt had from 1670 onwards a white/grey coat with yellow cuffs. In your website the Saluzzo regt has a white coat with red cuffs in 1664. But both could of course be true.

I also recall from the ebook that it said that before the 1700s, infantry officers often dressed different from their men, but that the cavalry officers in Savoy wore blue. Savoy abolished the pikeman earlier than most other nations in 1685. The ebook also said that unlike other countries, the militia in Savoy were quite good.
