Seven Years War Tactics?

Can anyone recommend a book on Seven Years War tactics or nature of warfare? I have played alot of Napoleonic and I am trying to understand the subtle differences between these periods. As far as I can gather infantry formations were more lineal and light infantry were starting to be used? Not sure ...

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen. Interesting reading. I am sorry if any ill feeling has been caused. To be honest the lack of light infantry in the Marlburian period is part of its appeal for me. The opening exchanges between skirmishers in other periods often just seems to delay “getting stuck...

Ray,

Wow! I am looking forward to seeing those flags! I am not up to hand painting flags myself so I may try some colour photocopy fiddling about if no-one is printing them.

Did you not feel like a break from doing all the infantry first and starting some of the cavalry units?

Thanks for all the comments so far chaps. An interesting discussion.

Just to add to the mix, I am aware infantry in the Marlburian period for example, seemed quite capable of breaking ranks to attack buildings which to me is akin to a light infantry role possibly?

Hi Ray, Thanks for the reply. I am not surprised about one of your units winning a prize. Well done :D I was surprised that researching Marlborough's British wasn't as straight forward as you would think. I don't plan on getting the whole force like yourself. Maybe just 4 battalions, 4 squadrons and...

Light Infantry/Skirmishers

Hello Everyone :D I am new to this forum and new to the Marlburian period. I am planning to field a British army so I have been avidly reading "Churchill"s posts on "Blenheim OBB" topic. An initial observation is that there doesn't appear to be much if any use of light infantry or skirmishers? I am ...
