Perry 28mm plastics

Post by paulos » Thu Dec 06, 2007 6:24 pm

Hi guys,

It would seem that Perry miniatures are to release 28MM ACW figure in hard plastic. I believe that there will be an infantry box containing 36 marching and firing line poses plus command and a 12 figure cavalry box, and are set to retail at £12  a throw. They are due out in March next year and will run alongside a new metal ACW range.

Even though I am very much a metal figures kind of bloke I think this could be good move for the hobby as a whole taking into account continual hikes in the price of metal which will make it difficult for those of us on lower incomes to build up armies in 28mm.

I am looking forward to see where this leads. I will continue to by metal figures as I prefer them to the plastic ones I have used in the past so I will still be adding to the lead mountain in my loft  but, I think for fleshing out large projects or indeed starting new ones cheaply without compromising on quality sculpts this could be a great way to go.

It may not get much further than this initial release and other companies may or may not join in but the possibilities are endless Napoleonics, Ancients and what about WW2 platoon boxes for rules like DH and IABSM. 8)

Cheers Paul.

It's an interesting development. I like the Perry metal sculpts but have been disappointed in the quality of the casting. If the quality of the final production plastic figures is high then they may sell well, especially with an ACW range. The current GW plastic figures being a huge quality advance from the polythene figures available in my youth.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Just when I was thinking of dabbling with SYW along comes another temptation!

I think what the Perry's have planned is commendable. I have never been a fan of the WHFB type plastics but the LotR plastoics looked quite good, although not really my scene.

If it means cheaper mini's then this is generally a good thing, yeah? The only worry I have is that the market for plastics may expand dramatically and a number of great little companies may suffer for it. Hopefully there will be some sort of balance, after all, we all love the feel and weight of metal mini's, right?

Just my two pence worth :) .

Oh, and my first post too.

Cheers,

Darrell.

I have to admit I wasn't a great fan of plastics which probably stems from my age  with memories of the old soft plastics.

But last year I bought a load of Games workshop lotr stuff on e-bay  to get some Rohan, and I have to admit the detail is great and I enjoyed painting them. the only down side having to be careful with the spears and weapons so as not to bend them, and to get used to their light weight.

Now Perrys ACW in Plastic 28mm 36 for £12 now I'm surely tempted

plus after hefting masses of 28mm Napoleonics and trying to avoid a hernia :? for big games, Lightweight sounds good.

Plus at those prices it should be possible to get others in the club to dabble for special games
