US 13th Armored Regiment December 1942 FOW

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

US 13th Armored Regiment December 1942 FOW

Hi,
heres a few pics of a mid war US tank company I recently painted for a Flames of War tourny. Big thanks to Peter Mc C for all his help.

Its based on the US 13th Armored Regiment of the 1st Armoured Division during December 1942. Still has the yellow stars and the Lees from 2nd Battalion.

I was looking for the grubby, worn look, as if they had been in the desert for a while.

So heres the pics.

Gary

I can see you must have been busy last week, your force looks great. Were you still finishing off the painting on the morning of the competition?

How did it perform?

Very good job as usual. Got the dusty feel just right.
we are still playing FOW a lot in sunny Dumfries. Played my FJ against a KV1 "horde" last night. Very enjoyable. like fighting 15 tiger tanks.
came right down to the last dice throw. Fj still unbeaten.... just.
Even with my fantastic dice rolling. 4 stugs (8 shots) at 3,4,5,6 resulted in
7 1,s and a 2 . next throw. 3 ones and a 3. one hit from 11 dice. !!
cheers

Very nicely put together.

One question - did some models of the "Lee" not have an mg in the commander's cupola? From my Airfix days, I always thought this was the main difference between the "Lee" and "Grant" variants.

(Interesting that the British variant was called "Grant" and the American version "Lee" as the real life Grant hated the British, whilst Lee was far more Anglophile.)
Ssshhhhh!!!!!

Those look really good, is the army built from the new North Africa book?

I don't like the look of the tanks on bases but you do it really good!

Excellent work Gazza, you've really caught the feel of a force on campaign and I like the tanks on bases because of the added stones and clump's of long grass.

Best Wishes........Ray.
