Those look very nice indeed.

My only question is: how do we know they've got the Cuirass on under their coat?

Absolutely lovely. It's almost like being in a sweetie shop........just better....... :D ....only job is how do I figure getting them into my army for Ireland or Scotland at the moment????

Cheers

You may call it sarcasm........I, on the other hand, prefer to refer to it as a humorous observation!!! :-)

Well Gerry, that is a good question because I was thinking exactly the same thing! I have come across a modern illustration of Scots dragoons of the 1680's wearing a cuirass!

That will give the WFP nightmares

I don't care how I get them into the Irish campaign, the're going to get there though.

Probably mix a few in with the Danes, some in both lifeguards & the Dutch as well. Also going to use the command as substitutes for the normal command, just for variety & on the assumption that as armour was worn in the previous decade, it wasn't going to be discarded easily.

Just my thoughts

A book called the Hostory of Cavalry by two Croatian or Serbian chaps. i recently found only the second of it I have ever seen at Partizan and bought it for Toggy!
The illustrations in it are fantastic although some are questionable. The Scots Dragoon in particular is interesting He is weainrg hodden grey, a cuirassier, a bandolier with apostles, a tam o'shanter with a red tourie and riding a piebald or is it skewbald pony. Nice colour plate date as 1680s.

Can definitely confirm this, a real mixture of almost civil war uniform, but certainly got a breastplate on.

VERY interesting...

Now there's one you've not covered - breastplate with apostles! 8)

Don't worry Ray, will be restricting any armour to senior officers, if that...

But you have to admit, it would make for some interesting models, and even more interesting comments on the wargames table!

Your certainty about everything is on one hand reassuring Ray and on the other deeply disturbing.

I am afraid my life appears far less certain in every dimension... that's what makes me human

Royal Regiment of Scots Dragoons, the Grey Dragoons, later Scots Greys, wore grey coats and blue bonnets 'til at least 1685, may have meant to illustrate them?

Cross belt with apostles is at least in line with their use as mobile infantry.

Just looked at the Jan Wyck painting used on Mike McNally's Aughrim book, several cavalry chaps wearing cuirass there.
Granted it's only titled "cavalry skirmish", with no reference to Ireland, but its obviously being used as a generic illustration of the period, much like my toy soldiers will represent what I think they looked like.

You pays your money & takes your choice.

Bob

p.s.

Ray the book is a very good study of cavalry, & I think that most if not all illustrations of military dress & equipment in the period we are discussing here, are at best just guesswork, so I wouldn't compare it to White Dwarf to hurriedly.
