The straw yellow colour will probably have been something like BUFF or DESERT YELLOW from Vallejo I think.

I should ask any tips as to how you photograph your miniatures?. Most of my pictures have been in natural sun light but in general my apartment is badly lit and there is only a very small window for taking decent pictures and with the autumn weather, whole days can be a write off.

I use 3 day light bulbs against plain white paper background. One bulb to the left, one to the right, one overhead(and angle lamp sitting on a box and pointing straight down). Use the aperture setting on your camera and set it to a very small aperture. Use the timer and use a small tripod. The shutter will only stay open for a fraction longer than normal because of the intensity of the light sources. Use photoshop afterwards to enhance the shot by correcting the balance. Daylight is good but not always available. Never use flash it is shit and bleeds all depth and colour out of a mini.

Thanks for the info. I will give something like this a try so I can be an all weather photographer. Worked out that the flash makes just about any miniature look like crap!

really enjoyed painting these guys, makes a change from napoleonics.
