I'm interested . . . and I posted a plug for "Beneath the Lily Banners" as well.

I can't say that I'm thrilled about the name . . . I suspect that a lot will identify it as later since many equate "Horse and Musket" with Napoleonics.

Anyway, I'd suggest that Barry might want to join . . . it seems to me that it would be a good place to tout his "Beneath the Lily Banners" when it is available.

Jeff, although I understand your wish to have the name be something around the Grand Alliances Dan Schorr has posted a great comment on a name and what it really means. I think that Dan is right in regards to Louis XIV being the focal point of all of this. The Alliances, the other people mentioned all come later, sometimes much later in the period of Louis XIV. I'm beginning to lean more towards "The Early Linear Warfare Society - Warfare in the Age of Louis XIV 1660-1721". Appropriate subtitles can be given for the other people - William III, Charles XII, Marlborough, Peter the Great and those wars inwhich they were involved. What are some thoughts from others on this site? Barry, we'd love to have you join and contribute given your love for this period and the information you can share. Plus it'd be nice to get you over here (in the U.S.) again and maybe this time bring your 'toys' along to dazzle them and plug your new rules!

I've got no problem with Dan's suggestion. My quibble was with the "Horse and Musket" part of the name since so many just automatically think of Napoleon.

I will say that perhaps Eugene's fights vs the Turks should probably figure in there at least as much as Louis . . . but not many are familiar with those eastern battles.

"The Early Linear War Society" is fine as far as I'm concerned . . . and I believe that I said so on one of my posts to the group. For those interested in joining, the URL (at the moment) is:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Ear ... t_Society/

If/when the name changes, so will the above URL . . . but I'm sure that someone will advise everyone of that.

And, Barry, yes you would be a most welcome asset to the group.
